Gutters and Downspouts
Seamless gutters, gutter repair and downspouts
Your roof collects every drop that lands on it. Gutters and downspouts decide where that water goes, and the right answer is well away from your foundation.

We install seamless, custom-fit gutters, repair runs that leak or sag, clean out clogged systems, and add or fix downspouts and extensions. As roofers, we treat gutters as the last stage of the roof’s drainage rather than a piece of trim.
What is at stake is mostly underground. The Department of Energy’s Building America Solution Center says roof runoff must be channeled away from the foundation to keep a basement or crawlspace dry, and the EPA’s moisture guide says to clean and repair gutters regularly and keep the ground sloping away from the house.

Signs your gutters need work
Overflow in heavy rain
Water spilling over the front edge can mean a clog, a run that has lost its slope or a gutter too small for the roof above it.
Sagging or pulling away
Loose hangers, or rotted fascia behind the gutter, let runs drop out of line.
Drips at seams and corners
Sectional gutters are pieced together along each run, and every joint is one more chance to leak.
Water at the foundation
Puddles, washed-out mulch or a damp basement wall near a downspout point to water being dumped too close to the house.
Stains and peeling paint
Streaks on siding or peeling paint on fascia below a gutter can mean water is getting behind it.
How it works
How a gutter job goes
- 01
Free estimate
We look at the roof edge, each gutter run and where every downspout drains, then give you a no-obligation estimate.
- 02
Measure and plan
Runs are measured for custom-fit seamless gutters, with downspouts placed to suit your yard, walks and driveway.
- 03
Install or repair
We hang new gutters, or re-hang, seal and secure existing ones, and add downspouts or extensions where water needs to go farther.
- 04
Cleanup and final inspection
We clean up the site and finish with a final inspection of the system.
Options
Gutter and downspout services
Seamless gutter installation
Each run is custom-fit in one piece, so the only joints are at the corners and ends.
Gutter repair
Leaks, cracks and holes fixed, and sagging runs re-hung and secured.
Downspouts and extensions
New or repaired downspouts, plus extensions that carry water farther from the foundation.
Gutter cleaning
Leaves and debris cleared so water can drain. Shingle granules in the debris also hint at how your roof is aging.
The numbers behind a gutter that works
These targets come from the Department of Energy’s Building America Solution Center. A gutter can look fine from the yard and still miss on any one of them.
- Slope: at least 1/16 inch of fall per foot of run toward the outlet.
- Downspout capacity: about 1 square inch of downspout cross-section for every 100 square feet of roof.
- Discharge: onto ground that slopes away at least 5 feet from the foundation, or to an underground system at least 10 feet away.
Where the water should not go
In the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District, a downspout piped into the sanitary sewer breaks MSD’s Sewer Use Ordinance as well as local building codes, and MSD says those connections must be removed. Its backup prevention advice is blunt: never pipe a downspout, sump pump or driveway drain into a sanitary line.
The right destinations are a storm drain or a spot on your property where the water can soak in, well away from the house. If an old downspout disappears into a pipe in the ground and you are not sure where it ends up, find out before you count on it.
Keeping them clear
FEMA’s roofing guidance recommends routine checks to clear vegetation and debris and tighten loose connections, along with trimming back limbs that reach over the roof. A house under mature oaks needs more attention than one in a newer subdivision with young trees.

FAQ
Gutters and Downspouts: questions
Ask us anything at (314) 222-9529.
Why choose seamless gutters?
Fewer joints mean fewer places to leak. Because each run is made to fit your house in one length, there are no seams along the straight runs, only at the corners and ends.
Do you clean gutters?
Yes. Cleaning is one of our gutter services, and it is a good chance to check hangers, seams and the roof edge at the same time.
Should gutters be replaced with a new roof?
Not automatically. Sound, properly pitched gutters can stay. If they sag, leak or overflow, replacing them while we are already working at the roof edge is the simpler time.
What makes gutters sag?
Usually failed hangers or a rotted fascia board behind them. If the fascia is soft, it needs repair before any gutter can hold; our soffit and fascia page covers that work.
Do downspout extensions really matter?
Yes. A downspout that empties at the foundation drops all the water from that stretch of roof right where you least want it. An extension or a buried line carries it out to ground that can take it.
Do you work on gutters for businesses?
Yes. Seamless, custom-fit gutters and downspout work apply to commercial buildings as well as homes.
