Roof Repair
Roof repair that starts with finding the real problem
The stain on your ceiling shows where the water ended up, not always where it got in. We trace leaks and damage to the source, show you photos, and fix what is actually broken.

One bad spot does not mean you need a new roof. A shingle torn loose in a gust, a cracked collar around a vent pipe or a strip of flashing that has worked free can let in a surprising amount of water, and each one is a repair.
With more than 20 years of roofing experience behind us, we have learned to find the cause before quoting the fix. You see the photos, you hear the options, and if a repair will not hold, we tell you that too.

Signs your roof needs a repair
Stains, drips or damp insulation
Brown rings on a ceiling, wet insulation in the attic, or drips that only show up when the rain is wind-driven.
Missing or lifted shingles
FEMA notes that a roof’s edges are at more risk from wind uplift than the rest of it, so a few loose shingles along the eaves, rakes or ridge are worth fixing before the next storm.
Flashing trouble
Rusted, bent or caulk-smeared metal where the roof meets a chimney, wall, skylight or vent pipe.
Sagging or soft spots
A dip in the roofline, or decking that gives underfoot, can mean water has been getting in for a while. Have it looked at before the next heavy rain.
Damage after a storm
Cracked or bruised shingles, or dented vents, after hail or high wind. If the damage is spread across the roof, read our storm damage page before paying for a repair.

Options
Repair or replace?
Spot repair
Right for a few damaged shingles, a cracked vent boot or one loose flashing detail on a roof with plenty of life left.
Section repair
When one slope, valley or wall line has failed but the rest of the roof is sound, rebuilding that area can make more sense than starting over.
Replacement
When problems show up all over the roof, or it is near the end of its life, repairs stop being good money. If we think a repair would only delay the inevitable, we will show you why.
Where we look first
Water can run along decking and rafters before it shows up inside, so the stain is a clue, not an answer. We start where the roof changes direction or something passes through it. FEMA’s roofing guidance stresses that flashing at vents, chimneys, exhaust caps, dormers and skylights has to be installed correctly and integrated with the shingles and underlayment to keep water out.
- Valleys, where two slopes meet and water concentrates
- Chimneys, skylights, dormers and sidewalls
- Plumbing vents, exhaust caps and other penetrations
- Eaves, rakes and ridge, where wind gets its first grip
Repairs and the code
A repair usually does not have to bring your whole roof up to today’s code. The re-roofing guides from O’Fallon and St. Peters both say that when only part of a roof covering needs repair, the repair can match existing conditions.
Bigger work is different. St. Peters, for example, requires a permit once a job replaces over a quarter of the roof sheathing, so a repair that grows can change the paperwork. Your city’s building department has the final word, and rules change.
When a storm caused it
Hail or wind damage may belong in an insurance claim rather than a patch. The state insurance department’s advice is to cover openings so the damage does not spread, keep your receipts, and leave permanent repairs for after the insurance company has seen the damage, since a claim might be denied otherwise. We can photograph everything and walk you through the options first.

FAQ
Roof Repair: questions
Ask us anything at (314) 222-9529.
Is a repair worth it on an older roof?
Often, if the rest of the roof is sound and the problem is local. If the shingles are brittle or bare across the whole roof, we will show you the photos and talk about replacement instead.
Will the repair match my roof?
We match as closely as we can. Shingles fade and product lines change, so a patch can look a little different at first. Ask to see the closest option before work starts.
Can a small leak wait until spring?
It is not worth the gamble. A small leak soaks the decking and insulation every time it rains, and the damage grows where you cannot see it. If a full repair has to wait, get the spot covered.
What does a roof repair cost?
It depends on what failed and how far the water traveled, so we price each repair after we have seen it. The inspection and estimate are free, and our roof replacement cost guide covers the bigger projects.
Do you fix roofs you did not install?
Yes. Who put the roof on does not change the approach: we find the cause, show you the photos, and point out anything about the original installation that is behind the problem.

Signs you need a new roof
Curling shingles, bald patches, daylight in the attic and leaks that keep coming back usually mean a roof is finished. A few missing shingles on a sound roof usually do not.
