St. Charles County grew fast and grew recently. Half of its homes were built in 1994 or later, according to the Census Bureau’s latest five-year estimates, and only about one in four predates 1980. That means a lot of subdivisions whose original roofs went on within a few years of each other and are now reaching the age when shingles wear out, at the same time.

It is also hail country. Since 2015, NOAA’s Storm Events Database lists 94 hail reports in the county on 37 separate days, and 86 of those reports were hail an inch or larger. The biggest came on May 11, 2016, when two supercells dropped hail up to 4 inches across from Dardenne Prairie, O’Fallon and Weldon Spring east toward Cottleville and St. Peters. Since then, May 13, 2023, March 14, 2024 and May 26, 2024 all put 2.75 to 3 inch hail on parts of the county, and 2025 brought 36 reports, more than any other year in the record.

FAQ

St. Charles County: questions

Do you charge for inspections in St. Charles County?

No. Inspections and estimates are free anywhere we work, with no obligation. We are based in O’Fallon, so most of the county is a short drive.

Why do so many St. Charles County roofs need work at once?

Much of the county was built in the 1990s and 2000s, so neighborhoods share roofs of about the same age, and the same hailstorms cross whole subdivisions. When one house on a street needs a roof, the neighbors often do too. A roof’s age alone does not mean it needs replacing, which is why we start with an inspection.

Do you work in Troy and Lincoln County?

Yes, we serve Troy. Call us about other Lincoln County addresses and we will tell you whether we can help.
