Weldon Spring has about 5,300 residents and a lot of trees. After World War II, much of the land around it, once part of the Weldon Spring Ordnance Works, became the August A. Busch Memorial and Weldon Spring conservation areas, and NOAA’s storm reports from this area keep mentioning downed trees and limbs on roofs. Correll Roofing Co. is based in O’Fallon, just to the northwest.
That setting shapes the work as much as the storms do. A house surrounded by mature trees needs its gutters cleared more often, its fascia checked for rot, and its roof looked over after every windstorm, not only after hail.

Local homes
1990s homes beside conservation land
The Army made explosives at the 17,232-acre Weldon Spring Ordnance Works from 1941 to 1945, and the cleanup of the site, including a later uranium plant, wrapped up in 2001 with a 41-acre disposal cell. The residential city grew up beside that land: its population went from 1,470 in 1990 to 5,270 in 2000, and the Census dates the typical house to 1995.
Homes from that decade are now 25 to 35 years old. Larger houses usually carry larger, more cut-up roofs, with more valleys and flashing to keep tight, and those details are where older roofs start to leak. Add woods on two or three sides and gutters fill faster, fascia stays wet longer and soffit vents collect debris, so the exterior below the shingles needs as much attention as the roof.
Hail and wind
Hail at the weather service’s front door
The National Weather Service’s St. Louis office moved to the Missouri Research Park in Weldon Spring in 1990, and on March 27, 2021 its own observers recorded 1.75-inch hail at the office. NOAA’s database places 47 hail reports inside a 5-mile radius of the city between January 2015 and June 2026, with 37 of them dated 2023 or later; the largest was a 3-inch stone from the May 13, 2023 swath near Harvester. On May 16, 2025, a weather service employee reported 2-inch hail just west of town that kept falling for 10 minutes or more.

The county’s residential permit page lists the projects it covers, such as decks, garages and pools, without addressing re-roofing, so call the division at 636-949-7345 before work starts.
For projects that do need a county permit, the county notes that Weldon Spring properties also need a land use permit from the city (City Hall, 5401 Independence Road, 636-441-2110). As of 2026 the county works from the 2021 International Building Code, and Weldon Spring has adopted the same codes.

I had the pleasure of working with Devin Stinson and am currently getting my roof replaced. I had waited almost too long to do it as I am a first time homeowner. The process was a little scary but Devin reassured me and walked me through the process…
FAQ
Roofing in Weldon Spring: questions
Call (314) 222-9529 if yours is not here.
Who issues building permits in Weldon Spring?
St. Charles County’s Building and Code Enforcement Division, under a contract with the city. Its residential permit page doesn’t mention re-roofing either way, so confirm with the division before work begins, and leave any permit it requires to your roofer.
Our lot backs up to the woods. How often should the gutters be cleaned?
Plan on a cleaning after the leaves drop each fall, and another in spring if your trees shed heavily. Water sheeting over the front of the gutter during rain means a clog or a sag, and left alone it soaks the fascia and soffit. Gutter cleaning and repair are part of what we do.
What should we check after a windstorm?
Walk the yard for shingle pieces and fallen limbs, look along the ridge and roof edges for lifted or missing shingles, and check the gutters for dents or loose hangers. If a limb hit the roof, have it looked at even if nothing leaks yet, since damage under the shingles doesn’t always show inside right away.
