St. Louis County’s housing is older and more varied than St. Charles County’s. The median home was built in 1969, and about two in three were built before 1980, according to the Census Bureau’s latest five-year estimates. Older homes bring older details: low-slope porch roofs, box gutters, chimneys that need new flashing, and attic ventilation that was never designed for today’s insulation.
Hail has been especially busy here lately. NOAA’s Storm Events Database lists 93 hail reports in the county in 2025 alone, more than in the ten years before it combined (77). March 14, 2025 produced dozens of reports during a night of tornadoes, May 16, 2025 brought hail up to 2.5 inches the same afternoon a tornado tore through Clayton and into the City, and on May 19, 2025 hail up to 2 inches fell in Brentwood and nearby communities.

St. Louis County is a patchwork of cities and unincorporated areas, and building permits follow that patchwork: some cities run their own building departments, while St. Louis County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works handles unincorporated areas and cities that contract with the county. Each community page below names who issues permits there.

Fixed on the spot
I had a leak in my roof and called a couple different roofing companies to check it out. None of them could figure out where it was coming from, they just told me I’d need a whole new roof. Then I called Correll Roofing Company. Curtis came out…
Knowledgeable, polite, and responsive
I contacted Correll Roofing about some shingles that I lost off of my roof during this last round of high winds that we experienced. Jon responded to my inquiry quickly, came out to my home and replaced the missing shingles in a very timely manner.…
Reassured me and walked me through the process
I had the pleasure of working with Devin Stinson and am currently getting my roof replaced. I had waited almost too long to do it as I am a first time homeowner. The process was a little scary but Devin reassured me and walked me through the process…
FAQ
St. Louis County: questions
Do you serve all of St. Louis County?
We work across the county, from Florissant and Maryland Heights in the north to Oakville and Fenton in the south and Wildwood in the west. The communities listed here are where we work most; if yours is not listed, call and ask.
Was 2025 really that bad for hail in St. Louis County?
By NOAA’s count, yes. The Storm Events Database lists 93 hail reports in the county in 2025, compared with 77 across 2015 to 2024 combined. Reports depend on people reporting hail, so the true number of affected homes is higher.
My house is older. Can you work on it?
Yes. Older homes often have low-slope sections, box gutters and chimney flashing that need extra attention, and we look at all of it during the inspection.
